In the beginning of winter we went from a family of 3 down to two. Now, grazing the sanctuary is just me(Miz Fluffybutt) and my sidekick Daryl#2.  I personally, enjoy being the head honcho but it gets a bit lonely for us. I wonder if Tall Redhead will get us any newbies to hang with???????

Good morning peeps!!

We are so happy the rain has stopped..yayayayayay..coo!!
"tall redhead" has been singing..

Johnny Nash - I Can See Clearly Now..............that IS not pretty.......Look it up. As long as she doesn't come outside wearing a disco cat-suit to clean our coop I think we will be okay.

People!-we ARE NOT DUCKS!!

The last few days have been awful for us. We have been grumpy, tired and a bit emotional. Not only did our play area get flooded but so did our roost!! Due to the rising waters we were forced to climb on furniture (pooping on everything to let "tall redhead" know we were displeased) small bushes, tree logs and even the humans air conditioning unit.

Being up higher has caused some problems too.  We have the neighborhood hawk watching us up close......easier for him to swoop on us and also the area crows. Note*They don't want to eat us unless the hawk strikes first-they are bullies though!!

Sooooooooooo we can now be FREeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lay in the sunshine................spread our feathers and dry out!!

Can't say the same for "tall redhead" and all the poo she has to cleanup.......

Peace out.......Daryl

The invasion!

Good afternoon dear internet creatures! This is Daryl catching everyone up on today's ventures.
This morning we hens decided that we would cause "tall redhead" complete chaos. (We were a tad bored) It just so happens that a caboodle of flies hatched and decided to do the same thing. Poor.......poor human.
Nervous Nelly was"tall redheads" nick name today. Jumping everywhere to kill them flies and everywhere to shun us. It was quite a show! We have spent most of the day getting onto "tall redhead's" porch and under the garden fence. My myyyyy are squash blossoms yummy!
Among all the running we did there was a thunderstorm too. Our adorable garden haven flooded. Everything is under water.  Nowhere is there a dry feathered bottom.
(BTW.......we hens do NOT like rainy days.......AT ALL! We ARE not ducks! We take great pride in having cute and fluffy....aaaaand DRY.....under feathers!)

All "tall redhead" got was one egg for all her efforts. We however, got some pesky flies, a few swift kicks in the tail feathers and a ton of laugh at "tall redheads" expense . I think I can speak for the girls and say we will sleep goooooood tonight!!

Rain..rain go away...

Today is like the great flood of Noah's time................................we are all huddled under the cherry tree. "tall redhead" came out once to feed us and we are hoping she will let us on the porch...Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease!!?? It is raining so hard we are NOT going to lay any eggs today or come out and visit. (much grumbling taking place)   Here are some lovely pics from our backyard home to look at while we are on strike today.
We can't eat this guy.........................................maybe when it emerges as a butterfly or moth??
We sit under these beauties when it is hot....................................
This woodpile is like Golden Coral to us.......................bugs, maggots and worms-YUM!

We are...drumroll please..

Introductions are in order:

I am Cucco....I am half red feathered and half white feathered.  I am picky about eeeeeeeeeeeevrything and dislike getting picked up.

Hi! My name is Daryl.  I am the watchdog of the flock.  I looooove to be loved on and fed treats but I hate uncooked veggies.......yuck! I am the designated rooster of the clan and I make noise all day long so nobody forgets it.

My name is Daryl too.  Maybe that should be Daryl 2!  I am pretty much picked on by the flock but my other half...Daryl 1 loves me....we get worms together and snuggle at night. I love cabbage moths, naps and hiding under things.

Good day peeps! I am Fluffybutt. I am the chief lady around here and am all white and gold except my middle that is red and brown feathered.  I am the biggest chested of the group and use it to my advantage by bopping others out of the way...including my caretaker. I tend to be a bully but have a nice streak in me....especially if you have ice cream for me!

Frizzy feathers

Morning world!!

Fluffybutt.......chew,gurgle...chew... here.......sorry.....chatting with my beak full of toast.
Every morning the "tall redhead" shares her fix-ens with us.  Yesterday we had my favorite....milk and grits with raisins. Today toast and jam. :) aaaaand.......worms galore!! They are everywhere with this drippy weather.
Personally, I don't like  to get wet and muddy but when the "tall redhead" let us out today our whole world was just that...wet and muddy.....
Wow! Last night was bizarre. Not only did the "tall redhead" make us sleep in a makeshift coop(didn't know how we were supposed to get up in there in the rain for starters) but we had a front row seat to a heat lightning show.  All my feathers were on the frizz!! The colors were amazing! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bird_vision
In the middle of the night dear Cucco and I were so frightened by heavy rain that we could have laid a dozen eggs then and there. Daryl and Daryl slept through the whole thing. (Goofs)
Well.....me and the gals are headed for the horseradish plants........ttyl

The heat is on the up!

Hi and good afternoon peeps!!
My name is Fluffybutt. Today I took myself and fellow hens aaalllll the way over to the woodpile.  Our caretaker.....we call the "tall redhead" was shifting logs and I found a buffet of delightfully tasty bugs.  "tall redhead" was a bit squeamish on extracting some for us but eventually moved more wood so we could fill our bellies.
The heat is reaching a whopping 90 today and despite an awesome lunch we are all a bit cranky.
I am happy to find respite behind a cherry tree and its surrounding grasses.
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn..................time for a siesta.
